Understanding Work-Life Balance

While it may be tempting to streamline your work-life balance by cutting your time in half, that’s not always how life works. Work-Life balance is about finding a rhythm that allows for fulfillment in all the areas of your life. Your rhythms may be different from season to season and person to person. Living with balance means leaving margin for those things and people that are most important to you. Creating space takes intention and planning and understanding priorities.

The Science behind work-life balance

Research shows that maintaining a healthy work-life balance lead to these benefits…

  • Enhanced overall life satisfaction

Life coaching tips for enhancing work-life balance

If you’re looking for some places to start incorporating balance, then you’re in the right place. Here’s some ways you can get started.

Set Clear Boundaries

Establishing and following predetermined boundaries can help you get started with living with balance. This will include setting and communicating clear limits on your work availability.

Prioritize Self-Care

Identify and make time for activities that recharge you. Find ways to spend time doing things that bring joy and refreshing. Ideas include reading, spending time in nature, exercise, and your favorite hobby.

Practice Time Blocking

This isn’t my favorite, but would be really helpful for those of us challenged by staying focused. It all comes down to planning specific time slots for specific activities including work, devotional time with God, family fun, and more. Get creative and try to stick with your planned time blocks as much as possible.

No is a complete sentence

Saying no can be challenging for any of us. But understanding and giving yourself permission to say no is important when seeking to live with balance and align your priorities. It’s okay to say no so that you can create space for what truly matters.

Living with balance takes intention and being mindful of the way we spend our time. The thing is…is that it’s not so easy. Being diligent in planning for and creating space can be difficult in certain season. The good news? We don’t have to do it alone!
